Vicki’s Turtle Friends

Every journey needs a guide; be sure an adult is by your side!
Every JAMBO’S JOURNEY activity MUST have an ADULT’s supervision.

What You Will Need:

  • cardboard
  • toilet paper rolls
  • corks from bottles
  • paper (try using old newspaper, balled up old paper, receipts, or tissue paper)
  • markers in brown and yellow
  • stapler
  • glue gun

Directions:

Step 1:
Ask a parent to cut the construction paper into the shape of a top and bottom of a turtle shell or, roughly, two large circles.

Step 2:
Cut out two sets of shapes to be the feet. The back feet should be circular and the front feet should look like crescents.

Step 3:
Ask an adult to staple the shell halfway around, making sure that the legs get stapled to the shell, too. After making a pocket, stuff the turtle shell with paper.

Step 4:
Ask an adult to put a little hot glue at the tail end of the shell, the fit the cork halfway between both sides of the shell. Be careful not to staple too tightly on either side of the tail to make sure that there is room for the tail! Continue stapling around towards the head.

Step 5:
Grab an empty toilet paper roll and bend down the front of it into a blunt point. Insert the other end into the shell and again use the glue gun to help attach the head. Decorate the head with yellow and brown markers.

Step 6:
Now tear pieces of the cardboard to make the turtle shell “markings” and glue these on top. Finish stapling all needed areas around the shell and have fun with your new aquatic friend!
